Particulate Removal from Flue Gas
“Particulate Removal from Flue gas: Improving the performance of Electrostatic Precipitators”
Funding: EU (ECSC 7220–PR/123)
Partners:University of Nottingham (GB), EVN (AT), ENEL (IT), Powergen (UK), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (GR)
SimTec took part in this project as a subcontractor of Aristotle University. The modeling work of SimTec consisted of the creation of a customized CFD model, which was incorporated in the commercial CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) solver FLUENT, extending the applicability of the standard package edition to handle the flow, particle and electrostatic characteristics inside ElectroStatic Precipitators (ESPs). The model took into consideration all the processes involved inside an industrial ESP, namely the fully coupled three coexisting fields of gas flow, particle dynamics & electrostatics.
The FLUENT feature of User Defined Functions (UDFs) was used for the creation of the model. Subroutines were written in C language that extended the applicability of the standard FLUENT solver.
