SimTec Ltd. as subcontractor of INSTA Consulting Engineers completed in a study for fire and smoke propagation in the National Museum of Modern Art in Athens. The commercial CFD software package FLUENT was used.

Six (6) fire scenarios were invesigated. The CFD study revealed the existing conditions in the Museum's halls and escape routes for the first crucial minutes after the fire start. The computational model calculated the pressure distribution, gas mixture velocity distribution, temperature distribution and the toxic gasses concentration in every part of the domain. Special subroutines were developed for the calculation of the toxicity level in CO, for the calculation of visibility (smoke concetration function) and for the calculation of thermal stress (temperature magnitude function) in every part of the domain
